ABOUT TROPFEST

It all started with a man, a cafe and one simple idea: to create a platform for talented filmmakers and a new wave of storytelling voices. 25 years on, Tropfest has become the world's largest short film festival and one of Australia’s most iconic cultural events.

Tropfest hosts the largest live audience for short films in the country, as a free, outdoor festival.

At Tropfest we are recognised for our enormous contribution to the development of the Australian film industry through events and initiatives that deliver ever expanding audiences to view their work, locally and globally.

One of the most unique aspects of the competition is that every film must be made specifically for Tropfest. The intention is to encourage filmmakers to get better at the craft of filmmaking, by making more unique content. This is achieved through having an annual Tropfest Signature Item (TSI) that must be included in their film.

This year’s TSI is PINEAPPLE!

Tropfest is honoured to have an extraordinary array of notable alumni in all aspects of film making with names including: Joel Edgerton, Nash Edgerton, Sam Worthington, Elissa Down and Toni Collette, and many, many more.

Most recently, Tropfest has announced our move to the iconic, beautiful and very large Parramatta Park! Tropfest will be held in Parramatta Park, Saturday 11 February 2017.
