Modelled on the world’s largest short film festival, Tropfest, Trop Jr is a short filmmaking competition and a free, outdoor festival for kids aged 15 years and younger.

Tropfest hosts the largest live audience for short films in the country, as a free, outdoor festival.

Now in its ninth year, Trop Jr follows the same format as all Tropfest competitions, in that all entries must be made specifically for the festival, be no longer than 7 minutes, and feature the Trop Jr Signature Item.

One of the most unique aspects of the competition is that every film must be made specifically for Tropfest. The intention is to encourage filmmakers to get better at the craft of filmmaking, by making more unique content. This is achieved through having an annual Tropfest Signature Item (TSI) that must be included in their film.

This year’s Jr TSI is RAINBOW!

At it’s heart, Trop Jr is all about encouraging young filmmakers to explore their creativity through film. From where we stand, we can see a huge community of young kids with an enormous passion for filmmaking.

In the Festival’s short history, we’ve celebrated the work of some seriously talented young filmmakers. We have no doubt that many of those kids who enter Trop Jr will be part of the next generation of successful career filmmakers.

This year we are excited to be holding Tropfest in the iconic, beautiful and very large Parramatta Park!
